The Mon-Arc of Monroe County

The Mon-Arc of Monroe, Inc. is a non-profit organization, made up of parents, professionals and concerned citizens. Established in 1962, the ARC exists to improve the welfare of all citizens with developmental disabilities, while providing and promoting services on their behalf.

Serves people with intellectual, developmental and personal challenges by creating opportunities for a good life.

The MOOver!

The MOOver provides free door-to-door transportation for riders age 60 or over and for persons with ADA-defined disabilities.

Destinations served are:

  • Non-emergency medical trips including prescription pickup
  • Critical care trips for kidney dialysis and cancer treatments
  • Congregate meal sites and meals on wheels deliveries
  • Congregate shopping trips
  • Personal care trips

Medicaid Rides

If you are approved for Medicaid transportation, the MOOver provides free rides to non-emergency medical appointments. You must be a resident of Windham or southern Windsor County without access to a vehicle. Follow this link for our Medicaid Rider Survey

The NARCOG Regional Transit Agency

NARCOG provides transportation planning for our communities in the rural areas of the region outside of the Decatur Metropolitan Area. Our rural transportation program enhances the movement of people, goods and services by providing a cooperative planning forum for community leaders and transportation providers to have an open dialogue with the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) officials on the status of projects and transportation related issues and projects in our region.

The National Consumer Voice for Quality Long-term Care

This group, formed as an outgrowth of work done by advocates working for Ralph Nader and the National Gray Panthers, provides information on federal and state regulatory and legislative policy geared toward improving long-term-care facilities.

The National Resource Center on Nutrition and Aging

The NRCNA’s purpose is to build the capacity of senior nutrition programs funded by the Older Americans Act (OAA) to provide high quality, person-centered services, and to assist ACL and stakeholders to identify current and emerging issues and opportunities to enhance program sustainability and resiliency. The intent of the OAA senior nutrition program is to: reduce food insecurity, hunger and malnutrition; enhance socialization; and promote health and well-being.

The Older Individuals who are Blind Technical Assistance Center (OIB-TAC)

The Older Individuals who are Blind Technical Assistance Center is a part of the National Research & Training Center on Blindness and Low Vision (NRTC) at Mississippi State University, focused on agencies serving older individuals who are blind (OIB).
